Spitzer to name new Parks chief Governor-elect has selected Carol Ash, who heads Palisades Interstate Park group, to run state agency

"Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer has selected the director of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission to be his state parks commissioner, sources said yesterday.The announcement of the appointment of Carol Ash, a former Port Authority manager and environmental protection official in the New York City area, could come today. Ash would succeed Bernadette Castro of Lloyd Harbor, who has been commissioner of the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for the entire 12 years of Gov. George Pataki's administration.Ash did not return calls for comment and Spitzer spokesman Paul Larrabee said he could not comment on the parks appointment. But he said several high-level appointments would be announced today.'
