Four new administration appointments were just announced by Gov. Eliot Spitzer and LG David Paterson:

Michael J. Burgess, commissioner of the Office for the Aging (needs Senate confirmation/annual salary is $109,800). Burgess has served as executive director for the state Alliance for Retired Americans since 2004 and prior to that was executive director of the Statewide Senior Action Council. Burgess previously worked for the Office for the Aging as a policy analyst from 1981 to 1982.
Kevin S. Law, chairman of the Long Island Power Authority board of trustees. He will then serve as COO. (No salary for the chair/COO salary set by LIPA Board of Trustees). Since 2004, Law has served as chief deputy county executive and general counsel in Suffolk County. From 1992-2004, Law was the managing partner at the Long Island Office of Nixon Peabody LLP. He was a legislative aide to the Assembly from 1984 to 1987.
Angela M. Sparks-Beddoe, commissioner of the Public Service Commission (needs Senate confirmation/$129,000). Sparks-Beddoe is president of Energy East Management Corp. in Saratoga Springs (and a registered lobbyist). She has been with the company since January 2001, where she was also the vice president of public affairs. Previously, she served as director of government affairs at New York State Electric & Gas Corporation, where she worked from 1993 to 2001, holding various titles.
Deborah VanAmerongen, commissioner of the Division of Housing and Community Renewal ($120,800). She is the current director of Multifamily Housing for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in NYC, - a position she has held since 1998. Prior to joining HUD, she worked in the state Assembly as a legislative coordinator for the program and counsel staff from 1989 to 1995.
