NEW YORK PRESS
According to several sources, when Comptroller Alan Hevesi resigns it is Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr., who will take his place.Several sources both in and out of Albany have told NY Press that Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, the two men who control the process of picking Hevesi’s replacement, have decided that Carrion is the perfect consensus candidate for the post.Carrion would also break up the racial monotony that exists in Albany’s highest offices, all of which are currently held by white men. With the appointment, Carrion would become the first Latino to hold the post, and one of the highest profile Latino politicians in the nation.I’ve put calls in to all three offices (Carrion, Silver and Spitzer) and have not heard back from anyone just yet. Developing…UPDATE:Another Democratic Albany source has phoned in about this report. He said he has heard this rumor and thinks it has merit, but that the pressure will be too great to pick someone from upstate that the final decision will force Carrion out. “They’re going to have to look for someone outside of the five boroughs, I think,” he said.UPDATE: A spokesman for Carrion has returned my call. That office has declined to comment on this report at this time.
