Forget the Handshake

Suozzi confronts Spitzer in Mineola. Also, Times photog James Estrin shoots with his eyes closed, and my colleague Celeste Katz looks a bit freaked out.

"It may have been kumbayas all around as Gov. Eliot Spitzer and Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi appeared to endorsed county lawmaker Craig Johnson for State Senate. But Spitzer just could not help himself from getting off one zinger at his former gubernatorial primary foe. " He offered to meet me up at the train station," said Spitzer. "I told him if we shook hands there we wouldn't get here on time."
Spitzer's joke referred to Suozzi's campaign ambush last June when he showed up unannounced at the Mineola train station and held on to Spitzer's hand for one minute and 20 seconds -- trying to force him to say how he planned to shrink property taxes, if elected." I wonder if Suozzi now regrets this confrontation.....maybe he should have gone to Starbucks instead? andy
