Passing of the guard

AP Photo

"It may be an auspicious sign, or maybe just meteorological chance, but the sun peeked out a few minutes ago - just before Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer and First Lady Silda Wall Spitzer met their Republican predecessors, former Gov. George Pataki and Libby Pataki, at the top of the state Capitol steps for a photo opportunity.
After a brief pause for pictures, the foursome entered the Capitol’s east side followed by a clutch of reporters who had earlier been told the old and new governors might be making some remarks or holding a press conference in the Red Room.
Alas, it wasn’t to be.
The photo-op was the extent of things, and the press scrum quickly dispersed looking for other news tidbits until the scheduled 1 p.m. inauguration, which was moved back an hour yesterday due to a less-than-auspicious weather forecast."
(Capitol Confidential) and
The New York Times Empire Zone Out With the Old, In With the New had this to say......'Governor Eliot Spitzer and his wife, Silda, climbed the 77 steps up to the eastern entrance of the Capitol, where they were greeted by former Gov. George E. Pataki and his wife, Libby. As the two couples chatted and posed for pictures, the overcast skies suddenly lightened, giving a hint that the sun was up there somewhere.
“It’s a prospect of things to come,’’ Mr. Spitzer said. Mr. Pataki smiled.
Then the two couples went into the Capitol for a brief meeting"
